Malaga Inn Mobile Alabama

December 15, 2018

Downtown Mobile at the Malaga Inn

It was after 2pm be the time we walked back from Corner 251 so we could check into the hotel. I had us two suites reserved - suite 201 and 119. The Malaga Inn is a historic property that has hosted celebrities and debutantes for decades. There are pictures on the lobby walls of Michael Landon, Merv Griffin, Ronald Reagan and more. Mobile has quite the storied past and the Malaga Inn played a big part in that history.

Suite 119 was the bigger room with two double beds in the bedroom and a separate living room facing Church Street. Our favorite, though, was 201 with its balcony overlooking Church Street. We love the Thomas Jefferson windows that open to seven feet and let you walk out like a door to the balcony.

There is also a great center courtyard used often for parties and weddings. A fountain runs in the center. Breakfast and evening cocktails are served in the rear left corner suite which opens to a patio facing east. This hotel is a very nice property and a must-see for history buffs. We took a few photos in the room and in the lobby by the Christmas tree and then headed over to the Mardi Gras Museum which was only one block over.

Mobile Mardi Gras Party 2025

2025 was a great year for my Mobile Mardi Gras Weekend Party.  The weather was chilly, but not too bad. I had rooms 10 and 11 in the Fort Conde Inn. April and Dan got a room in the main house thanks to Wes having some cancellations from his group (Wes has a girlfriend now, Jenny; and we are waiting to hear of an engagement). My two rooms were full with Momma and Jimmy, Troy and Polly and Kevin. Olivia and Zoey stayed Saturday night in April and Dan's room. Brendan and Kayla showed up briefly Saturday and Sunday, but they had a ball in Daphne Saturday night, so they stayed with Kayla's high school girlfriends. Kelsy, Matt and their kids could not make it this year. They had just gotten back from a Carnival Cruise out of New Orleans, so Matt needed to get back for work. I do not think anyone else showed up Friday, Saturday or Sunday - I think I'll invite fewer people next year. Maybe just to people who have actually made an appearance over the years. Today is Fat Tuesday and ...

Mardi Gras Mobile 2023

2023 Mardi Gras was an awesome weekend with my family and friends. There are plenty of pictures to share with you on this page. Here is a recap of the weekend's adventures. Join us next year if you get a chance.  The weather was forecast to be cold and rainy all weekend, so I took my duck boots (great decision). Again, I rented 10 and 11 at Fort Conde Inn which are the two big rooms downstairs and upstairs across from the main building. Only April, Dan, Kelsy and Kash joined me Friday night. Everyone else came in Saturday morning.  April, Dan and I missed the Friday night parade. We ordered late at the Fort Conde Bistro and did not realize the parade was going to be over so soon. The three of us did try to catch the parade as it looped back into downtown, but April complained that we were running too fast and that her calves were burning. In all honesty, Dan and I thought we were just walking normally. We did crash a private party on the way back to the inn. We cau...

Mobile Carnival Museum

December 15, 2018 Mobile Carnival Museum We left Malaga Inn walking towards Dauphin Street. The Mobile Carnival Museum happened to catch my attention so I brought everyone over to tour. The museum is on Government Street and has the large Mardi Gras jokers on the porch (we should have gotten photos with those guys). I've passed it many times. I'm glad we stopped to take a tour. This place has plenty of history and memorabilia. We watched a short movie first. The lady that started the movie gave a short history/intro before it started and she did a very entertaining job. My favorite part was about Alabama becoming the Republic of Alabama (we all cheered at this), but it only last for about nine months because the politicians could not figure out how to keep us going instead of fattening their own pockets (tru dat, we all sighed). After the movie, we took a self-guided tour of this two-story museum. It has many Mardi Gras gowns and costumes and great insights into how ...
