Mobile the Rest of the Night

December 15, 2018

The Rest of the Night in Mobile got a little Fuzzy

There were a lot of places in downtown Mobile that we visited over the next several hours for our one night in downtown Mobile, Alabama. The evening did get a little fuzzy, but I remember our route pretty well. We left the Mobile Carnival Museum and headed down Dauphin street to Dauphin's so that I could show everyone the view before it got too dark. We were not dressed for dinner (very fancy place) but we felt comfortable enough to have drinks and appetizers at the high-top tables in the bar section. The walls are glass top to bottom around pretty much the entire place so you have an amazing view in almost any direction. Plus, the appetizers were affordable and very good.

After Dauphin's, I took everyone over to the Battle House hotel where we took photos around the lobby Christmas tree and then snuck up to the rooftop pool which was closed but at least I got to show everyone another view of Mobile.

We walked St. Francis Street back towards our hotel and stopped for more food and drinks at Firehouse Wine Bar & Shop. It is a neat little place off the beaten path just a block from Bienville Square. After Firehouse, we walked back to Dauphin Street where Kayla thought we would go to a hookah bar but it had apparently shutdown years ago and only the sign remained. We found the Cigar Bar next door instead and met Leroy, its owner, in the humidor. I remember Levi bought some high-dollar cigars and we all had probably our limit for drinks. That did not stop us though. We reluctantly left the Cigar Bar and made our way over to The Temple Downtown for a Spinx photo op and then more drinks at The Bar Downtown Mobile. April and Kayla danced the Wobble. I think I have video of that, too.

Back at the hotel, we did attempt a seance although none of us had ever done one and nothing came of what we tried. We clearly needed Kevin C and Pam L. We had a great evening, but I was in bed by midnight (no shame there; only wisdom).

April, I hope you had a great time and maybe this blog post helped bring back some memories of this one night in Mobile. Share it with all of your teacher friends.

Pretty sure this was our last bar before our Malaga Inn Seance.

And then I was first to bed. Winner!

Malaga Inn Mobile Alabama

December 15, 2018 Downtown Mobile at the Malaga Inn It was after 2pm be the time we walked back from Corner 251 so we could check into the hotel. I had us two suites reserved - suite 201 and 119. The Malaga Inn is a historic property that has hosted celebrities and debutantes for decades. There are pictures on the lobby walls of Michael Landon, Merv Griffin, Ronald Reagan and more. Mobile has quite the storied past and the Malaga Inn played a big part in that history. Suite 119 was the bigger room with two double beds in the bedroom and a separate living room facing Church Street. Our favorite, though, was 201 with its balcony overlooking Church Street. We love the Thomas Jefferson windows that open to seven feet and let you walk out like a door to the balcony. There is also a great center courtyard used often for parties and weddings. A fountain runs in the center. Breakfast and evening cocktails are served in the rear left corner suite which opens to a patio facing east. Th...

Scoping Out Mobile Alabama

December 15, 2018 Dauphin Street, Bienville Square, Malaga Inn - Downtown Mobile, Alabama Saturday morning, no, not even Saturday morning; Saturday noon, I arrived first to downtown Mobile. I drove over from my place on Perdido Key, Florida - only about an hour east of Mobile. April was driving down from Honoraville, Alabama with Kayla, Brendan, Missy, Kevin and Levi. I was supposed to also have Kevin C. and Pamela L. meet us for the overnight stay, but neither of them could join us. Kevin C. and Pamela L. are my ghost whisperers so I sorely missed them on this trip. Both of them actually saw a ghost at the Malaga Inn on a previous trip in their hotel room so I felt confident that they would channel a ghost for this trip. Alas, we will have to get them to Mobile on another trip. April and her crew were late as Kayla was late packing (this was a one-night trip). As such, I had time to bum around downtown Mobile alone and scope things out. The weather was cool and great for w...
